Autumn 2008 Directions for Registration, Fee Payment and Finalization Information
CYBERBEAR
All students register for classes by using CyberBear, the web registration system. Undergraduate students must be advised in their primary major department and obtain an advising number before registration. Registration is usually available 24 hours a day. CyberBear is reached at the web address: http://www.umt.edu/CyberBear/.
PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (PIN)
When registering for classes or reviewing grades, CyberBear requires the entry of a PIN. When students are admitted to the University, a PIN is assigned using the student's birth date - month/day/year. This is entered as a six-digit number. For example, for a student born January 9, 1975, the PIN is 010975.
For extra security, students are required to change their PIN to another six-digit number when first logging on to CyberBear. If a student has forgotten what his/her PIN number is, the student should select "Forgot Pin?" on CyberBear to answer the security question or go to Registration Counter in Griz Central with his/her Griz Card.
ADVISING PINS
Undergraduate students are required to obtain a new advising number each semester when meeting with advisors before registration. This is a six-digit number randomly assigned by the computer. This advising number is required when students first register for the term on CyberBear. Advising numbers must be obtained from the student's advisor or the department chair or department secretary of the student's primary major.
***Advising numbers are not given out by the Registrar's Office.***
Advising numbers are not required for graduate students and post baccalaureate students (students working on a second baccalaureate degree).
INSURANCE
The University of Montana-Missoula requires all students to have and to maintain major medical insurance. Before you can register for classes, you will be prompted to elect or waive the student Blue Cross Blue Shield plan. You may waive this option only if you have other major medical insurance coverage. You must make a selection (elect or waive) before you can proceed to the class selection area on CyberBear. Distance students must waive the health insurance.
